Leisure activities

Relax at the beach - This is the most widespread occupation in our region. Enjoy the beach in a rented beach chair, with your own beach shell or under a parasol. Children enjoy the beach that slopes gently into the water. We recommend that you reserve your beach chair with the municipal tourist service well in advance of your trip.

Walking and cycling - For the more active there are various opportunities for cycling and hiking along kilometres of Baltic Sea beach or in the gentle landscape of the Probstei.

There are a large number of very popular and well signposted cycle trails along the Baltic Sea coast and through the Probstei with its many lakes and varied landscapes. The routes "Maritime" (61km), "Culture" (58km) and "Nature" (60km) even lead directly through Schönberger Strand. The "Straw Figure Route" (54km, only July/August) starts in the neighbouring town of Schönberg (3km).

But you can also plan your own route. Towards the west you can cycle about 25km along the east coast of the Kiel bay via Heidkate, Wendtorf, Stein, Laboe, Heikendorf and Möltenort to the outskirts of the port of Kiel. Along the way you will find numerous cafes and restaurants for a rest. In eastern direction you can cycle about 8km along the Baltic Sea to Hohenfelde.

Horse riding - There are numerous riding-stables in the area, one of them about 300m away from our holiday home. They also offer trail rides and day rides.

Water sports - These include surfing and kite surfing, with the excellent conditions on Schönberger Strand. Those who want to learn a water sport such as surfing or sailing can visit a school on the beach, which also provide the necessary equipment and gear.

There are also other organised activities on the beach and on the water, such as beach volleyball or rides on the banana boat.

Fishing is another popular, local past-time.

In the evening hours we wish good luck to the fishermen on the pier, or in the small boats bobbing close to the shore, as well as to those who seek their luck with wave fishing on the beach.

From the nearby harbour of Laboe you can join organised deep-sea fishing trips.
